In the post-Trump era, with a reality TV star holding our country's highest office, tales like Kissel's are becoming more prevalent -- droves of young men and women are becoming involved and seeking public office. On the one hand, the 2016 election showed us that applicants don't have to be qualified to win. On the other, it was a rude awakening that the dissatisfied need to take politics. Enter Ben Kissel. At his "day job," Kissel -- along with co-hosts Marcus Parks and Henry Zebrowski -- hosts a true-crime-meets-paranormal comedy podcast. Last Podcast on the Left is ranked second on iTunes' humor chart and draws fans across the world. But like many dismayed young Republicans, Kissel chose 2016 as a wake-up call to run for office. As somebody who's been listed in podcasts and on the radio for eight decades, Kissel admits that a great deal of people wait to run for office for fear of criticism or using their previous vulnerable. His advice? Own it. In the end, he says, everybody has their own past, and so long as you "treat the Republicans with respect and humanity," voters can "accept each of the defects which go with that individual, as long as that person is willing to accept them." Like the offenders he covers on Last Podcast, Kissel says with a laugh, "lots of politicians are sociopaths with no ideology. Obviously not all them, but we need the people who have scruples, morals, and are concerned about their own failings." For somebody who faces the worst of humankind with dark humor in his day job, 6'7" tall Kissel really feels in the finest of people. He believes in sincerity salvation, and good intentions. These traits might seem just as strange in a true-crime aficionado since they do in a politician, but they are the same traits that give a youthful, non-politician the unique capability to serve the public. No matter what happens on Tuesday there's no losing. "The very fact that we're on the ballot is incredible, which we are ready to inspire individuals to run or participate in the political process -- that's a win. That is a gigantic win," he states. Kissel wants others to take heart in this message, also: "Losing is a big fear for people, but who cares! Just get out there, and if you keep getting out, continue doing this in virtually any area, you are gonna win." Learn More - Ben Kissel
